Delaware selected as new site for biopharma Manufacturing USA Institute

The University of Delaware has been selected as the site of a new Biopharma Manufacturing USA Institute. The Institute will comprise a group of 150 companies, colleges, nonprofits and government agencies, and will receive $200 million in funding.

Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker visited Delaware herself to announce the news:

“The innovations created here will make it easier for industry to scale up production and provide the most groundbreaking new therapies to more patients sooner,” said Pritzker.”

This major development underscores Delaware’s leadership in the bioscience industry, as well as collaboration between the public and private sectors.

“Working together is something we are very good at in Delaware, and this consortium of public and private universities, major manufacturers, government, trade organizations and nonprofits from across the country will be housed right here in Newark. I’m so excited to see how we can leverage the power of these partners to advance the biomanufacturing industry, which already contributes hundreds of billions of dollars to our country’s economy,” said Delaware Senator Tom Carper of Delaware.
